Dear little Raiya!
Grandma's little Raiya sunshine is here and everyone is so happy to meet you face to face.
Your Momma had a rough time of it trying to decide if you were really going to come or was it just false labor. She had the feeling that you were going to be born on December 4 (Monday). All day at work (yes, your Momma worked right up to the day before you were born) anyway, all day at work on Monday your Momma thought you might be born soon. She went to the gym for a walk and then went home. When she got home she called Grandma and said we should be ready to go because just maybe this was it. So Grandma and Auntie Laura didn't sleep very well that night waiting for the call. Your Momma called around 1:00 or 2:00 in the morning to say that the Midwife didn't want them to come to the hospital yet. So we all tried to sleep, but your Momma didn't sleep at all really. In the morning Grandma and Auntie Laura went to work and your Momma and Daddy went to the hospital just so the Midwife could check your Momma to see how you both were doing. They told your Momma to go home and try to sleep and the Midwife did some things to help your Momma and you be born. Around 2:00 your Momma called and said she had a good breakfast and slept for three hours or so and was feeling better, but that things were changing again. At 6:00 pm Grandma talked to your Momma and Grandma was sure that this was it. So your Momma called the Midwife again and at 6:30 we all left to go to the hospital because you were going to be born!
Auntie Laura and Grandma met up with your Momma and Daddy on the road just before you get the hospital. I guess we drove pretty fast! When Auntie Laura and Grandma got to admitting your Daddy was parking the car and your Momma was sitting by herself having a bad pain. Grandma wanted to hold your Momma and take care of her. Grandma loves your Momma so much!!!
There was another lady in the waiting area and the nurse came with a double size wheelchair and wanted to take that lady because she was there first. But for some reason that lady didn't want to get in the wheelchair. Your Momma and I wanted to put her in the chair just so the nurse could come back for your Momma.
When the nurse finally did come for your Momma there wasn't a room for her in triage. (Triage is where the decide if you were really going to be born or if it was a false alarm.) So they had to have your Momma wait in the waiting room. That was hard for her and Grandma and your Daddy and Aunt Laura didn't like that. Finally they brought your Momma to triage and they said she was dilated to 4cm and that you were really going to be born! It took them a long time to get your Momma a labor and delivery room. Things were moving too slow for your Daddy and your Grandma's liking. When we got your Momma to a labor room she decided to sit in a warm tub of water to help her relax. She just sat down in the water and she felt like you were going to come so your Daddy scooped her up out of the tub and helped her to the bed. The nurse called the midwife and she came in to check your Momma. She was dilated to 8 cm and that got everyone hopping. There was such a racket in the room as they hurried to get all the things ready for you. None of the nurses thought you would come so fast because your are your Momma's first baby. But you sure fooled them!!
Uncle Brian and Aunt Emily came to the hospital to bring Grandma a cup of coffee because they thought it would be a long time before you were born and thought the coffee would help Grandma stay awake. They also wanted to keep Auntie Laura company in the waiting room. You sure fooled them too. When I came out to the hallway to tell them that you were getting ready to come, they were so surprised.
We got to the hospital at 7:20, up to triage and in the waiting room by 8:00. In triage by 8:15. In the labor room by 8:45 and you were born at 9:20 p.m. It all went so fast. Your Momma did such a good job bringing you here safely and your Daddy was her champion. He took such good care of your Momma so that she could concentrate on bringing you here safely. Grandma cried when I got home just thinking about how your Daddy took care of your Momma.
When you finally came your Daddy and Mommy and Grandma all cried tears of joy. Momma looked to make sure you were really a girl, but the Midwife, Grandma and Daddy all forgot to. About five minutes after you were born the Midwife asked if anyone checked to see if you were really a girl or not! But your Momma remembered! She couldn't get enough of you. It was amazing watching you take your first breadth. What a miracle you are!!
It has been a dream ever since. So much has happened in the time that you were born. In four more days you will be a month old. Grandma got to be over to your house helping your Momma and Daddy. It was the most special time. Auntie Laura and Grandma got to hold you in the hospital the day after you were born. No other company was there so Auntie Laura and I got to hold you all we wanted. Were born on a Tuesday night and came home on a Thursday. Grandma and Auntie Laura and Auntie Kari stayed overnight at your house on Saturday night. Grandma stayed up with you all night long so that your Daddy could get some sleep. Your Daddy loved you so much he just couldn't let himself sleep that first week! So he slept downstairs on the couch and your Momma and Grandma stayed upstairs hoping your Daddy would sleep.
How blessed you are, little Raiya, to be loved by so many people.
Grandma came to spend the day with you and your Momma on December 18. What a good day that was. But Grandma got sick with pnuemonia and brochitis the next day and have been sick for two weeks. I didn't think you would get to come for Christmas, but Grandma was feeling a little better. You came with your Momma and Daddy on Christmas Eve. That was your first time to Grandma's! I couldn't hold you because I was still a little sick, but you were at Grandma's and that was so exciting! You came again on Christmas Day and your Momma and Daddy had dinner with us. Actually, your Momma ate and your Daddy held you. :) So you came two days in a row! But Grandma still didn't get to hold you. You were suppose to come over today for Auntie Laura's 18th birthday, but Auntie Kari was sick with a fever and the stomach flu. I haven't got to see you for so long. Your Momma tells me all about the things you are doing and how you are changing. I am hoping to see you on Wednesday if everyone is well. We just don't want you or your Momma and Daddy to get sick. You are so little and it would be so hard for you to be sick.
Time is going so fast. You are almost a month old. Grandma knew it would go fast once you were here.
It was a very special day the day you were born. Grandma can't believe how wonderful it is to be a Grandma.
Pretty soon you are going to be a cousin! Uncle Brian and Auntie Emily's baby will be here in February and then you will be officially be a cousin!
It is good to finally meet you face to face. Grandma can't take her eyes off of you. You are beautiful!
Grow strong, little Raiya. Soon you will here about Jesus and God and how much God loves you and you will grow strong in your spirit as well. Grandma prays for you to know Jesus and to love God. I get so excited to share the love of God with you. God's love is an amazing thing, Raiya. You just wait and see!
Sleep tight. Hope to see you on Wednesday!
Grandma
